Yarn purchase, needless to mention the stash provides yarn for even my grandchild-generation - but I have this strong demand for - YELLOW! - maybe the lack of sunshine we have here currantly. Anyway I found a great Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran here.
As I am quite new to that crafty business, I am not very experienced with yarns. Plus in Austria we have not really this "crafty tradition" as in english countries - we are used to "Dirndls" (I also sewed one for myself while I was in dressmakingscollege), to crossstitch items and cabled cardis and socks - everything in a very traditional way. Quilts for example, are totally uncommon here - and so all the lovely derivates. Here in Vienna there a very very few fabric stores - and none of them really good. The yarnstore-situation is not much better: It seems I am living in a kind of crafty desert.
Although I have a LYS and the girls there are really kind, but roughly they only supply Lana Grossa - which is not bad, but you know what I mean, one wants to choose...
So - the internet!
After hours of comparing, looking, again comparing I stick to Yarnbow. Apart from the mouthwatering range, the seductive prices, they offer to ship to Austria for exactly the same amount as I have to pay, if I order from a german store - totally weird!
To keep in a good knitting shape I have casted on this:
Its very funny how the colours appear, obviously my casio exilim has troubles with the green-cyan-range: the green is definitly TEAL!
The project is the heart hat by Elizabeth Zimmermann. I totally failed with this 24 rows: First I always had 1 stitch too much, then too less. But it worked anyway, so I didn´t ravel. Inspiring pics here.
Meanwhile I´ve done a little scribbling for the next knitted items:
top left - THE cardi...jesus how I long for this...
I am a bit unsecure about the yarn, as this contains microfibre - and I always prefer solid wool yarns, but I put on Miss Bliss.
down left - a new project for the knitdenying kid: a raglan, white with blue or yellow pin-stripes and red oder blue borders, embroidered with sailingboats
top right - a HB-raglan sweater as seen here and here and here
then I finished the scribble for "april" for my calenderproject, inspired by these divine ladies: sarah jane and belle and boo
I have done a similar illustration for a magazine years ago, but unfortunatly for me my artwork is nothing to take care of (you see the crumbled paper - I have done this while a scribbling session with kid1) - so I have lost the file, the mags editor sent me a copy, which I cannot open - anyone with mac-not-openable-file-experiences out there?
